The 60-minute Quick Start, in full

This is the entire mobile Quick Start. Work through it in order with two people and a shared note. You are planning one useful improvement today — your team publishes, verifies and re-tests it afterward.

What this does not promise: no one can guarantee an AI mention, source link, recommendation, click, lead, or sale. This guide helps you make accurate evidence easier to find and check.

1 Before you start — who joins and what to bring Setup

Who joins

  • Business owner or manager — approves what is true.
  • Customer-facing teammate — shares what buyers really ask.
  • Working alone? Put your own name in both roles. Use a qualified reviewer for legal, medical, financial, safety, or regulated facts.

What to bring

  1. Your website address.
  2. A shared note or blank document.
  3. A screenshot tool.
  4. Google Search and ChatGPT, if available.

Three results people often confuse

  • Mention: the answer names your business.
  • Source link (citation): a clickable receipt appears beside the answer.
  • Recommendation: the answer suggests considering your business.

None of those automatically means a click, lead, sale, or revenue.

Privacy rule: remove names, phone numbers, email addresses, payment details, health details, and other private information from customer examples.

DONE WHEN → the meeting is booked, both roles are named, and one shared note is open.

2 Choose one real buyer question Minutes 0–15

Ask the person who handles calls, forms, chats, or sales emails:

“Please send me the last three questions prospects asked before requesting a price, appointment, quote, visit, or purchase. Remove names and private details. Add the date and where each question came from.”

Choose the question closest to a real buying decision. Mark it APPROVED & SAVED only when every answer is YES:

  1. Source: Can we show where and when we found it?
  2. Decision: Could the answer help someone call, compare, book, visit, or buy?
  3. Fit: Can our business truthfully fulfill it?
  4. Proof: Can we or a qualified authority verify the important facts?

No customer questions saved yet?

  • Ask two customer-facing employees what they heard this month; save the employee, role, date and exact wording.
  • In Google Search Console, look under Performance → Search results → Queries.
  • Use Google Autocomplete, People also ask, AlsoAsked, or AnswerThePublic for ideas — but label each one MARKET CLUE — NEEDS VALIDATION.

DONE WHEN → one exact question, its source, its date, an approver, and an owner are saved.

3 Turn one question into three facts Minutes 15–25

A large buyer question usually hides several smaller checks. Search professionals call this query fan-out.

Buyer question: “Which plumber can repair a burst pipe in Metairie tonight, and how does emergency pricing work?”

The answer may need to check:

  1. Does the company repair burst pipes?
  2. Does it serve Metairie?
  3. What is the approved after-hours and pricing process?

Write the three most important facts your buyer needs. For each fact, save:

  • the approved plain-English answer;
  • the person, page, profile, review, or official record best qualified to prove it;
  • an important limit or exception;
  • the approver and last-checked date.

UNKNOWN is a good answer. It means “we have not verified this yet.” Never fill a gap by guessing.

DONE WHEN → three facts have a best source and a named approver.

4 Save the “before” picture Minutes 25–40

A baseline is the dated result you save before changing anything.

Google record

  1. Search the exact buyer question once.
  2. If an AI Overview appears, record SHOWN. Otherwise record NOT TRIGGERED.
  3. Save the full screenshot and every visible source link.

ChatGPT record

  1. Start a new conversation.
  2. Ask the question naturally. Do not say “search the web” unless you are running a separate web-search test.
  3. Record whether Search was visibly used. If you cannot tell, write UNKNOWN.
  4. Save the full screenshot and every visible source link.

Save with each result

Date • product • exact question • location • device • signed-in state • Search state • business mentioned? • source link visible? • recommendation? • screenshot filename

One result is one observation — not a permanent ranking. Do not keep asking until you get the answer you want.

DONE WHEN → Google and ChatGPT have separate, dated records.

5 Plan one page repair Minutes 40–50

You are planning the repair today. You are not writing or publishing the page in this session.

Draw a tiny topic map: one main page plus up to three supporting pages. The goal is complete answers, not more pages.

Make one decision

  1. IMPROVE a useful page that already serves the same buyer decision.
  2. ADD A SECTION when one helpful answer is missing.
  3. CREATE ONE PAGE only when it has a different job, real proof, and a maintenance owner.
  4. STOP when the business cannot prove or maintain the claim.

Choose the blocks your team will fill later

  1. Direct answer and important limit.
  2. Who it fits, where, and important exclusions.
  3. Honest price, requirement, or estimate guidance.
  4. The real process and next decision.
  5. Proof and links to the right sources.
  6. The buyer's three checks in plain English.
  7. One clear next step: call, quote, book, visit, or buy.

DONE WHEN → one URL, one page job, three facts, useful links, and one next step are chosen.

6 Create one First Win Work Order Minutes 50–60

Copy this into your task system or shared note. One qualified person may fill more than one role.

Buyer question: [exact question]
Page or profile: [current or proposed URL]
Problem: MISSING / WRONG / OLD / CONFLICTING / UNCLEAR / UNREACHABLE
Approved facts: [fact 1] • [fact 2] • [fact 3]
Implementation owner: [one person's name]
Fact approver: [one person's name]
Publisher: [one person's name]
Due date: [date]
Status: NOT STARTED / IN PROGRESS / READY FOR REVIEW / VERIFIED LIVE / BLOCKED
Proof required: approval • live URL • phone check • before + after screenshots
Required re-test: 14 days after VERIFIED LIVE

DONE WHEN → every task has one named person and one date.

7 Send the technical check to your website specialist Hand off

Copy and send this box exactly. You do not need to understand or change these settings yourself.

“Please confirm that [URL] opens publicly, works on a phone, contains visible text, has working internal links, and is not accidentally blocked from Google Search or ChatGPT Search. If the site uses a sitemap, confirm the page is included. If Search Console shows Search generative AI, save whether it says Include, Exclude, or Inherit; do not change it without approval. Confirm Googlebot and OAI-SearchBot access and check the current OpenAI SearchBot IP ranges at the firewall/CDN. Reply PASS or BLOCKED with evidence, date, and next owner.”

Do not change robots.txt, firewall rules, noindex, redirects, canonicals, schema, or security settings yourself unless that is your authorized job.

DONE WHEN → the specialist replies PASS or BLOCKED with evidence and a date.

8 Finish, verify, and re-test +14 days

Before the 60-minute session ends

  • One approved buyer question and three approved facts are saved.
  • Google and ChatGPT baselines are saved separately.
  • One repair has an owner, approver, publisher, due date, and status.

After your team publishes

  • The public result is checked on a phone and marked VERIFIED LIVE.
  • The comparable re-test is scheduled for 14 days after VERIFIED LIVE.

At the re-test, keep the question and setup as similar as practical. Add a new record; never overwrite the baseline. Choose KEEP, REPAIR, ESCALATE, or STOP.

DONE WHEN → the loop is closed and the next question is queued.

Measure the right event

Visibility, clicks, leads and sales are four different things

More AI answers do not guarantee more clicks. Save each of these as a separate measurement — and never call a mention a lead or a sale.

Mention

The answer names your business. It is an observation, not an outcome.

Source link

A clickable receipt appears beside the answer. Still not a visit.

Recommendation

The answer suggests considering you. Still not revenue.

Revenue

The only number your business banks. Track it separately, always.

Questions

Before you download

Do I need to be technical to use this?

No. It was written for nontechnical business owners and their teams. Anything that touches robots.txt, firewalls, redirects, canonicals, schema or security is marked SEND TO A SPECIALIST with a copy-and-paste request you forward without changing settings yourself.

Will this get my business into Google AI Overviews or ChatGPT?

No one can promise that, and this guide never does. AI results change by question, account, location, device and time. What you can control is whether your real facts are accurate, public, reachable and verifiable — that is the entire method here.

How long does the first win actually take?

Sixty minutes to plan it with two people. Your team then publishes and verifies the repair, and the comparable re-test is scheduled 14 days after the page is marked VERIFIED LIVE.

What is the difference between the two documents?

The 8-page Quick Start — free on this page — is the mobile planning session. The 39-page Action Guide + Team SOP is the full implementation manual: examples, worksheets, checklists, source notes and the 90-day plan. Same first step, much more depth.

What happens after I fill out the form?

You get the PDF by email. Nothing else is required. If you want a second opinion on where to start, the free visibility audit is there — and it stays optional.

Start with one question you already know buyers ask

Everything else in this system is built on that. Get the full guide, run the loop once, and you will have something most businesses still do not have: a dated record of how AI answers describe you.
